The Home Health Station is the mobile part of the senior design project done by RIT CE graduate students Chris Decker, Colin Bellmore and Philip Hays.
The proposed project is a collection of medical sensors connected to a home computer that collects and transmits medically relevant information to caretakers’ and licensed physicians’ Android devices. The home computer base station will display the readings of the attached sensors and provide an audio/video link to the Android device. The base station will also allow for manual data entry from unconnected sensors through a standard keyboard. The Home Health System aims to make routine medical information more readily available and accessible, while being a convenient appliance for the patient. A Freescale powered Smart-book by Genesi will act as the home system with USB connections to a scale and a combination blood pressure/ pulse/ oxidation meter. The Genesi Smart-book includes a camera and microphone to transmit moving images and voice to the Android phone to visually asses the patient’s health. The Android application will access a database of patient measurements in a separate server to improve security and reliability. The home station will also notify the patient of any scheduled appointments and medications, and will act as an accessible point of contact between the primary care physician and the patient at home.
