OPTI-TRANS is the first integrated multi-modal Journey Planner (or Route Programmer) for Athens and Madrid. It has been developed by the Integrated Systems Laboratory of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications in NCSR Demokritos, within the framework of pan-European partnerships. The OPTI-TANS Journey Planner covers all urban public transport for the city of Athens, including subway, bus, trolley, tram, suburban railway, taxis and of course walking(!). While for Madrid it covers buses, subways, taxis, private cars carpooling (dynamic car sharing - DRS), and walking. OPTI-TRANS Journey Planner provides optimal solutions for combinatorial use of public transport from a point of departure to a destination and incorporates the use of GPS for automated setting of a starting point. It provides a detailed description of all intermediate stops along the route on the map or in text format. It also provides a visualization of the route drawn on the map with all the stops and use of special icons to differentiate between the available public transport means. OPTI-TRANS provides further visual navigation on the map by incorporating an electronic compass.

Το OPTI-TRANS είναι ο πρώτος ολοκληρωμένος Journey Planner (Προγραμματιστής Διαδρομών) για την Αθήνα και τη Μαδρίτη. Αναπτύχθηκε, στα πλαίσια πανευρωπαϊκών συνεργασιών, από το Εργαστήριο Ολοκληρωμένων Συστημάτων του Ινστιτούτου Πληροφορικής & Τηλεπικοινωνιών του ΕΚΕΦΕ Δημόκριτος. Ο OPTI-TANS Journey Planner περιλαμβάνει όλα τα αστικά ΜΜΜ της πόλης μας, όπως μετρό, λεωφορεία, τρόλεϊ, τραμ, προαστιακό, καθώς και ταξί και φυσικά περπάτημα(!), ενώ στη Μαδρίτη περιλαμβάνει λεωφορεία, μετρό, ταξί, συνεπιβίβαση ιδιωτικών αυτοκινήτων (dynamic car sharing – DRS), και περπάτημα. Ο Προγραμματιστής Διαδρομών ΟPTI-TRANS παρέχει βέλτιστες συνδυαστικές λύσεις για τη χρήση των ΜΜΜ από ένα σημείο αναχώρησης σε ένα σημείο προορισμού και ενσωματώνει τη χρήση GPS για αυτοματοποιημένη εισαγωγή της αφετηρίας μιας διαδρομής. Παρέχει αναλυτική περιγραφή όλων των ενδιάμεσων στάσεων κατά μήκος της διαδρομής είτε στο χάρτη, είτε σε μορφή κειμένου. Επιπλέον παρέχει οπτικοποίηση της διαδρομής πάνω στο χάρτη με όλες τις ενδιάμεσες στάσεις και χρήση λογοτυπικών εικονιδίων για να διαφοροποιούνται μεταξύ τους τα διαθέσιμα ΜΜΜ. Το ΟPTI-TRANS παρέχει, επιπλέον, οπτική πλοήγηση πάνω στο χάρτη με χρήση ηλεκτρονικής πυξίδας. Recently changed in this version:
